Protect Your Personal Data and Others' Personal Data!
What to do if you believe there has been a breach of your personal data or if you want to exercise your rights guaranteed by the Law on Personal Data Protection of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Step 1 – Contact the Data Controller (the company/organization processing your personal data)
Submit a written request to the data controller, stating the specific problem (violation of the right to personal data protection) and request them to resolve the issue and provide you with a response to your request in due course.
For example, if someone has opened a fake profile on social media using your personal data, you would initially contact the social media platform's customer support.
Step 2 – Contact the Personal Data Protection Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina
If the data controller does not act on your request, does not provide you with a response within a reasonable period, or if the response is not in line with the provisions of the Law on Personal Data Protection of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In your request, describe in detail the violation of the right to personal data protection (how, when, where, and by whom the violation occurred). If available, attach all documentation related to the case (e.g., correspondence descriptions, photos, links to posts, etc.).
More information about the rights of data subjects (individuals whose data is processed), in accordance with the Law on Personal Data Protection, can be found on the website of the Personal Data Protection Agency in Bosnia and Herzegovina: http://www.azlp.ba/prava_nosioca_podataka/Default.aspx
Special note regarding detected fraudulent activities on social media: We recommend to our clients and all citizens to be cautious about their privacy and not to share personal data, photos of ID cards, or bank cards with anyone over the internet and social media. This way, personal data can be misused, and individuals can be financially harmed.
