Stories of successful clients – Radomir Ostojić
The property of 8 dunums of land that is currently covered by blueberries used to be a neglected plot of hidden potential only a few years ago. By his own will, efforts and dedicated work, Radomir Ostojić from Drinjača, near Zvornik, discovered the quality of this land and started his current business, blueberry cultivation.
In that area, Mr. Radomir told us, wild blueberries used to grow, hence the idea to start with this line of business. He is the first one in his region to try his hand at this business and is very successful. He started with a farm of 2 dunums and his goal is to soon expand his current farm to the area of 10 dunums.
He receives great help and support in his daily work from his wife Slađana and their son. Growing blueberries has become their family business. In addition to the cultivation and marketing of the berries that are very beneficial for health, but also profitable, the Ostojić family is also engaged in the breeding of lambs and sheep. They do most of the work themselves, but in the season, during the harvest, they also hire seasonal workers for the harvest. Most often, these are people from their environment, family members and friends.
Blueberry products are marketed to the local population and markets. Mr. Radomir is very satisfied with the current state of cultivation and business, and not only does their work bring financial benefit to the family, but for him, working on the farm brings specific charm, i.e. peace of mind.
And his successful cooperation with EKI also contributes to his peace, because he does not worry about the constant investments that are necessary for his business. "I took out all the loans from EKI specifically for business, and that was investing mainly in fixed assets. The current loan I am using is for the purchase of an irrigation system, while I used the previous loans for the purchase of an all-terrain vehicle and for a refrigerator to store final products," said Mr. Ostojić.
He selflessly shares his knowledge with everyone who visits him in the desire to learn something more about the cultivation of blueberries. He is especially pleased by the fact that these are mostly younger people who show interest. What he would say to everyone who wants to start their own business is that without great effort, investment, sacrifice, persistence and, most importantly, without family as a pillar, there will be no positive results.
